Iris Nieuwenburg

Iris Nieuwenburg (1972, Bergen aan Zee, NL) studied silver-, and goldsmithing at the MTS Technical school, Schoonhoven (NL), followed with a B.A Jewellery at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam (NL) and a M.F.A. Free Design at the Sandberg Institute Amsterdam.
Her work has been presented all over the world and is part of various public and private collections. In 2007 she was awarded the Herbert Hoffmann price, during Schmuck München (DE).
Creating unique pieces Nieuwenburg is intrigued by the richness of 18th century objects. The colours and patterns of these objects makes her wonder about the people who lived in those interiors and fantasise about the highlights of family life. Her narrative jewellery reminds of a world lost in time, but the themes she touches upon are very up to date.
The design of the brooch 'See me' has especially been distilled and abstracted out of these collections for CHP.
